Message received: Crop or registration marks were found inside the printable area on pages 1–3. (The details change to match your file.)
Alert level: Warning. You can acknowledge this warning in the proof window and continue.
Applies to: Interior and cover files.
Meaning
Crop marks are small corner lines that show where a page will be cut, and registration marks are small target symbols used to align ink colors. Preflight found them inside the printable area, so they would print on your pages. You do not need to add them.
Necessary actions
- Re-export without printer’s marks:
- InDesign / Illustrator: In the export dialog, open Marks and Bleeds and untick Crop Marks, Registration Marks, and the other printer’s marks. Keep Use Document Bleed Settings ticked.
Screenshot to capture (team): InDesign export dialog, Marks and Bleeds pane, with all printer’s marks unticked.
Save as: FAQ_CROPMARKS_02_indesign-printers-marks-unticked.png
- Check that the marks are not part of your artwork, for example in a placed PDF or image that already contains marks. If they are, replace that item with a clean version.
- Upload the new file. Preflight will check it again automatically.
Can I proceed without fixing it?
Yes. Acknowledge the warning in the proof window to continue. The marks will print on your pages, so we recommend removing them.
