Message received: Your artwork does not extend 0.125 in past the trim edge.
Alert level: Warning. You can acknowledge this warning in the proof window and continue.
Applies to: Interior and cover files.
Meaning
Bleed is extra artwork that extends 0.125 in (3.2 mm) past the page edge. Pages are cut to their final size after printing, and bleed prevents a thin white line if the cut shifts slightly.
Preflight found that your pages are at the exact trim size with no bleed. If your pages have a plain white background, Acutrack will add the required bleed for you. If your pages have color or images that run to the edge, we recommend adding bleed yourself so it matches your design.
Necessary actions
- Decide which option fits your file:
- Plain white pages: Acknowledge the warning in the proof window. No further action is needed.
- Color or images at the edge: Add bleed and upload again, as below.
- Set your document size to the trim size plus bleed. For a 6 × 9 in trim, that is 6.25 × 9.25 in with bleed on all sides, or 6.125 × 9.25 in with bleed on the outside edge only. For covers, use the Required Cover Dimension on the upload page.
- Extend backgrounds and images to the edge of the bleed area. Changing the page size alone is not enough.
- Export your PDF with bleed included and without crop marks:
- InDesign: File → Document Setup, enter 0.125 in under Bleed. When exporting, tick Use Document Bleed Settings under Marks and Bleeds.
- Illustrator: File → Document Setup, set the bleed to 0.125 in. When saving as PDF, tick Use Document Bleed Settings.
- Canva / Word: [Test before publishing.]
Screenshot to capture (team): InDesign export dialog, Marks and Bleeds pane, with "Use Document Bleed Settings" ticked and all marks unticked.
Save as: FAQ_MISSINGBLEED_03_indesign-marks-and-bleeds.png
- Upload the new file. Preflight will check it again automatically.
Can I proceed without fixing it?
