Message received: Overprint settings were found on pages 2, 8. Colors may print differently than on screen. (The details change to match your file.)
Alert level: Warning. You can acknowledge this warning in the proof window and continue.
Applies to: Interior and cover files.
Meaning
Overprint tells the printer to print one ink on top of the ink below it, instead of replacing it. Black text set to overprint is normal and safe. Colored objects set to overprint can mix with the color underneath and print differently from what you see on screen.
Necessary actions
- If you set overprint on purpose, for example for black text, you can acknowledge the warning and continue.
- If you did not set it on purpose, turn it off:
- InDesign: Select the object, open Window → Output → Attributes, and untick Overprint Fill and Overprint Stroke.
- Illustrator: Select the object, open Window → Attributes, and untick Overprint Fill and Overprint Stroke.
- To preview, open the PDF in Acrobat Pro: Tools → Print Production → Output Preview, and tick Simulate Overprinting.
- Re-export and upload the new file. Preflight will check it again automatically.
Can I proceed without fixing it?
Yes. Acknowledge the warning in the proof window to continue. If the overprint is intentional, no change is needed.
