Our proofing procedure is designed to ensure your files are accurate and ready for production. Below is an overview of what to expect based on your printing method.
What happens during the proofing process?
Our proofing process includes the following steps:
Our team carefully reviews your files to ensure they align with our template and specifications.
We provide a PDF proof for your review and approval before producing a sample.
Overnight shipping of the physical proof (when applicable) is included.
Production will not begin until your proof is approved.
What kind of proof will I receive if my book is digitally printed?
If your book is produced digitally, we will provide a physical printed sample.
This sample:
Uses the same paper stock
Uses the same binding method
Reflects the final book size and thickness
The physical proof allows you to review:
Paper type and feel
Binding method
Book thickness
Overall size and appearance
This proof gives you a realistic representation of how the final product will look and feel.
What kind of proof will I receive if my book is offset printed?
When a book is printed using offset printing, it is not possible to produce a finished bound sample prior to the full production run.
Instead, we provide a digital proof.
What is a digital proof?
A digital proof is a digitally printed sample using the same paper stock and binding method.
It allows you to review:
Paper stock
Binding style
Book thickness
Book size
General layout and appearance
However, it is important to note:
A digital proof is not intended for evaluating final print quality or exact color accuracy.
Because offset and digital printing processes differ, slight color variations may occur in the final offset run.
What if I need to verify color accuracy?
If color accuracy is critical—especially for color-printed covers or image-heavy projects—you may request an EPSON color-matching proof.
An EPSON proof:
Is specifically produced to evaluate image quality and color accuracy
Is commonly used for color-critical covers
Can be provided for select interior pages if needed
For books with color interior pages, we recommend proofing only a few critical pages rather than the entire book.
Please note:
EPSON proofs are available at an additional cost.
Why is color matching handled differently for offset printing?
Offset printing uses a different production process than digital printing. Because of this:
Digital proofs are used to review format and construction
EPSON proofs are used for color validation when necessary
This ensures you receive the most accurate and appropriate proof for your production method.
